  • Fish oil supplements, APOE E4 allele carriers and Alzheimer's disease risk reduction

    Hello,

I just read the below referenced recent paper and thought that it was interesting. The author posits a biological mechanism for why DHA in fish oil supplements are not particularly effective for APOE E4 allele carriers in Alzheimer's disease reduction due to differences in the BBB (blood brain barrier) between APOE E4 allele carriers and non-APOE E4 allele carriers. The author's recommendation for those APOE E4 allele carriers is to consume DHA in a phospholipid form, such as whole salmon, salmon roe or krill oil.

That's a very interesting post. Thank you. Rhonda Patrick has an active, solid YT channel - with similar focus points. She gets a little more into genetic analyses. And less on Insulin Resistance and CV inflammation.

Causes and hazard factors, like a wide range of dementia, alzheimer's is caused by cerebrum cell passing. It is a degenerative ailment, which implies there is dynamic cerebrum cell demise that occurs after some time, in an individual with alzheimer's, the tissue has less and less nerve cells and associations

Yes. Have you read Dale Bredesen's End of Alzheimer's? He's got a great explanation. The weak spot & initial injury appears in many cases to be the synapse. With synapses that quit firing, the neuron has limited reason for continuing to exist.
